Angel Food Ministries Menu sometimes has dairy

Published by realityrain at 10:41 am under Products with Dairy in them Edit This

The hubby and I have been buying a box of food a month through the Angel Food Ministries Menu program.  It is helping us save money and so far the food has been decent.  The problem with Angel Food is that they seem to use a lot of nitrate solution as filler and this solution often has dairy in it.  Imagine my surprise when I pulled out a steak to grill up for dinner and the nutritional facts stated that it had wheat and milk in it!  I was lucky to have even caught it because I do not geneally look at a steak and think, hmmm, maybe I should read the ingredients?  The ingredients are usually, I don’t know, beef, right? No! Not so!  We donate quite a bit of the box back because of the obvious dairy but wouldn’t you know that we got home today and found some products with milk in them anyway!  The ribeye steaks had milk in them.  (Which shows that, though cheap, the Angel Food Ministries Menu is not the most nutritional menu)  Also, last month there was a large amount of fried chicken breasts and strips with wheat only in them while the fried chicken breasts for this month had milk in them.  I am so glad I looked!

I do think the Angel Food Ministries Menu is good to help people obtain cheaper food and the general taste of the food is pretty good, but be very careful if you or a loved one have a dairy or gluten allergy and make sure to supplement the food with as many fresh fruits and veggies as you can!
